Food: October 2006 Mystery Food

The Mystery Food is an homage to those marvelous school cafeteria lunches of yore.

Hideous, hideous glop. What could it be?   Mr. Worm

This month there were two great guesses:

"It looks like Matzah ball soup."
- Donette Hull

Gloppy, chunks of fat floating in it ... yep, although that isn't what it is, that's a really good guess.

"it looks like old gravy that's even lost its color but gained some unwanted inhabitants and could slither into dark corners and wreak all kinds of havoc."
- L.M.

Old - check. Gravy - check. Lost color - check. Unwanted lifeforms - check. We have a winnah!!!!
This picture is of old gravy made from roast beef drippings. The orange specks are from carrots, and it has plenty of little globs of congealed fat floating on top. Worst of all, it didn't look too much different after sitting out of the refrigerator for a week than it did right after making it. (We like to let things sit out a bit before photographing them to see if they look more ... interesting.)

Thanks to all for participating!
