Food: May 2007 Mystery Food

The Mystery Food is an homage to those marvelous school cafeteria lunches of yore.

Is it even edible?   Mr. Worm

This month there were several great and entertaining guesses:

"Perhaps it's something exotic, but it looks like apple cobbler to me."
- Brent Russell

"General Tso's chicken garnished with bits of uranium 234 maybe......"
- anonymous

Mmmm. Sounds delish! That reminds us of the old nerdy wisecrack, Confucious says "He who eats Plutonium gets atomic piles." (Confucious was technologically ahead of his time, it seems.)

"Closeup of Apple Pie Filling
or
Glazed Orange Chicken (not breaded)"
- Mo Quintana

"Mashed potatoes and gravy!"
- Jen H.

"Mashed potatoes and gravy, perhaps?"
- Anna B. H.

"Looks to me to be the apple cobbler in a TV dinner.  With any luck, there is a single cranberry or cherry in there too.  Yum! ... Do I win anything?"

- Don Schlotman

Don brings up an interesting point. Offering prizes hasn't been practical in the past, but it may become more so as this publication becomes more financially self-sustaining. Toward that end, what would you, the readers consider suitable prizes for correctly guessing a certain month's Mystery Food? A moldy sample of the food in question, perhaps? Please send your suggestions to info@tackyliving.com.

"I say Apple Pie filling!"
- Jen

"home run pie / apple pie filling / something gooey and cinnamon-ey"
- Maureen Moore

"A blob of melted brown sugar on top of oatmeal?"
- Paris H.

Paris, you have one of the closest guesses. It does indeed include brown sugar.

The May 2007 Mystery Food is (drumroll, please) a highly magnified walnut resting in a brown sugar/butter glaze.

Thanks to all for participating!
